Calculating the percent of a number is simple, but can be a bit tricky if you aren't careful. Luckily, it only requires a few basic operations to get to the solution: multiplication and division. To solve percentage problems, it may be useful to use a calculator. But, they can also be solved by hand or in your head (if you practice enough). So, how did we get to the solution that 1 percent of 50 = 0.5?

**Step 1:**As we know, a whole of something is equal to 100%. In this case, we want to find what 1% of 50 is. We know that 100% of 50 is, well, just 50.**Step 2:**If 100% of 50 is 50, then we can get 1% of 50 by dividing it by 100. Let's do 50 / 100. This is equal to 0.5. Now we know that 1% is 0.5.**Step 3:**Now that we know what 1% of 50 is, we just need to multiply it by 1 to get our solution! 0.5 times 1 = 0.5. That's all there is to it!

Percentage is one of the most commonly used math concepts in day-to-day life. You can use it to calculate a gratuity on a restaurant bill, or to grade your score on an exam. It is useful to know your percentages well!
